Engaging with Indigenous Research
Weyt-kp xwexwéytep.
(Hello Everyone in Secwepemctsín)
This website was created on the lands of the Secwépemc people by students of Thompson Rivers University which is situated in Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc.
These lands were never ceded and there was no agreement made where the Secwépemc people signed away their rights to this land.
Recognizing this is our responsibility as students on this land to move beyond a statement of land acknowledgement into something more tangible.
It is our collective responsibility to understand the culture, worldview, and way of learning that were traditionally done here for millennia before universities and colonial education institutions were created, and still happen on this land today.
This website was designed as an introductory course to learn about Indigenous methods of inquiry and how they can be engaged with in a meaningful and reciprocal way.
This website is also designed to be a document that adapts, evolves and acknowledges that this is just the beginning of the work. There is so much more to learn than the basics these pages contain, and we hope going through these modules sparks the passion within you to continue learning from Indigenous communities themselves.
This website consists of four modules that build on each other to develop and improve competency within Indigenous methods, but also to assist in community building. The four modules are organized as outlined below:
